Who We Are
With this issue, The Dartmouth Independent starts a new experiment. The aims of this new experiment are as follows:
First and foremost, we believe the Dartmouth community deserves a forum that channels bias for a meaningful purpose. We at the Independent believe that bias is not some dirty little word. Bias, when unexamined, however, can cause more damage than good.
Not everyone on campus is a cookie-cutter version of a right or left-winger. The Independent hopes to channel these varying viewpoints for meaningful discussion on issues that matter to this community.
Second, we want to deliver you commentary in a timely fashion. The Internet is not the medium of the future; it is the medium of today. As all blitz-addicts can attest, the Internet is life. The internet allows us to break free from the constraints of a traditional printing cycle. Time should not victimize good ideas nor shortchange thoughtful analysis. In this spirit, we have chosen the internet as our medium.
Third and finally, we want to facilitate your influence as students. Power is commensurate to information. By providing thoughtful, multifaceted analysis, we hope that the student body can eventually change the campus to how they see fit.
We know we have set out a challenging agenda. There will be mistakes, the occasional gaffes, and, sometimes, grammatical errors. But we will learn and be better. In the coming months (and, we hope, years), we will entertain you, inform you, anger you, and maybe even motivate you to write for us.
But, ultimately, we will provide you with the best journalism we can.
