VETTING WAIL
MEL GONZALEZ / UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO
This is an abstract juxtaposition of a violent relationship and ideal relational forms. Moments of intense intimacy are placed next to those of fetishized sexuality next to those of impenetrable distance. The perspective is genuinely female but placed within an almost inhumane context. Violence and intensity run through the short 6 minutes and an unclear ending lends to various interpretations. It was shot on 16mm (Bolex) and edited in Final Cut Pro with sound edited on Sonar.
ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: Mel Gonzalez is a graduating undergraduate Music and Philosophy major at the University of Chicago that has been working with film for the past 4 years. Gonzalez was on Fire Escape Films’s committee for 3 years and is still an active member. He has worked on various projects before but Vetting Wail is his first solo production. He is currently working on a 30 minute piece to be accompanied with live improvised music.
